Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare and development of children by officially declaring May 16 as Lagos Boy Child Day.
The Governor made the announcement during the Lagos State Stakeholders’ Engagement on the review of the Child’s Rights Law, describing the initiative as a significant step towards ensuring that every child in the state is protected, supported and given equal opportunities to succeed.
Sanwo-Olu also commended his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, for championing the Lagos Boy Child Initiative, noting that it was founded on the belief that boys deserve the same guidance, care and opportunities as girls.
According to the Governor, what began as a personal vision has now evolved into a state-backed initiative aimed at addressing the unique challenges facing the boy child while promoting balanced child development across Lagos.
He stressed that the declaration of May 16 as Lagos Boy Child Day reflects the government’s commitment to creating an inclusive society where every child can thrive regardless of gender.
The Governor added that the ongoing review of the Child’s Rights Law will further strengthen the legal framework for protecting children’s rights and advancing their overall well-being.
Sanwo-Olu reiterated that his administration will continue to implement policies and programmes that promote child protection, quality education, safety and equal opportunities for all children, ensuring that no child is left behind in the state’s development agenda.
