Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged residents who registered to vote, transferred their polling units or applied for replacement Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) to make arrangements to collect their cards ahead of future elections.
The governor made the appeal in a message to Lagos residents, announcing the commencement of PVC collection and emphasising the importance of ensuring that eligible voters are prepared to participate in the electoral process.
Sanwo-Olu encouraged all eligible voters who fall within the specified categories to take advantage of the collection exercise and obtain their cards from the appropriate designated centres.
He stressed that collecting a PVC was an important step towards exercising the right to vote, noting that citizens must be adequately prepared to participate in choosing their leaders.
According to the governor, voter participation remains an essential component of democratic governance, as it provides citizens with the opportunity to express their preferences and contribute to decisions affecting their communities and the country at large.
He urged residents not to delay the collection of their cards, particularly those who had recently completed voter registration, changed their polling units or requested replacement cards.
The appeal is aimed at encouraging eligible voters to complete the necessary steps required to participate in elections and avoid last-minute challenges that could affect their ability to vote.
Sanwo-Olu also reiterated the importance of civic responsibility, encouraging Lagosians to remain actively involved in the democratic process and recognise the value of their individual votes.
He noted that meaningful participation begins with taking the necessary steps to ensure that all voting requirements are met before election day.
The governor called on residents to treat PVC collection as a priority and make the necessary arrangements to obtain their cards through the appropriate electoral authorities.
He further encouraged eligible voters to remain informed about electoral procedures and comply with the guidelines provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Sanwo-Olu concluded by reminding Lagosians that every vote counts and that possessing a valid PVC is an important requirement for participating in the electoral process.
