Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expressed pride and admiration for young people in Lagos State following the Nigerian Excellence Evening and Gold Award Presentation, where he hosted The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward Anthony Richard Louis. The event celebrated outstanding young participants of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, a global programme designed to inspire personal development, leadership, and community service.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the Award as a transformative journey that goes beyond recognition. He described it as a powerful catalyst that helps young people build self-confidence, strengthen resilience, and develop a deep sense of responsibility toward their communities and the world at large. According to him, every participant who has embraced the challenge has demonstrated remarkable determination and an admirable commitment to excellence.
The governor commended the young Lagosians who have pushed themselves to learn new skills, volunteer their time, and take on demanding personal goals. Their creativity, dedication, and openness to learning, he said, serve as clear evidence of what young people can achieve when given the right support and opportunities. He noted that their accomplishments reflect the potential of a new generation ready to take on leadership roles and contribute meaningfully to society.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to nurturing such potential. He stressed that the Lagos State Government will continue to create and sustain platforms that allow young people to lead, innovate, and flourish. By investing in programmes that encourage growth and character development, Lagos, he said, remains determined to shape individuals who will define the next chapter of the state’s progress.
He concluded by celebrating all awardees and reaffirming Lagos State’s dedication to empowering young people whose talents and vision will shape the future.
