Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced a significant step toward resolving long-standing land-related concerns between Lagos State and the Nigerian Army. In a meeting held today with the Minister of Defense, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar; the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa; and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, all parties agreed on the formation of a joint committee dedicated to reviewing and addressing every land issue involving the state and the military.
According to the Governor, the decision reflects a collective commitment to fostering cooperation, transparency, and mutual respect between Lagos State and the Nigerian Army. The joint committee will be tasked with examining historical claims, clarifying boundaries, and assessing all existing documentation tied to disputed land areas. By creating a structured platform for dialogue, the government aims to prevent disputes, strengthen intergovernmental relations, and ensure that outcomes are fair to all stakeholders.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the initiative is not only about resolving past disagreements but also about establishing reliable records for the future. For years, inconsistencies and gaps in documentation have contributed to misunderstandings and tension, affecting both civilian and military interests. The forthcoming review will therefore focus on identifying these gaps, updating records, and putting in place a transparent framework for land administration involving the Army.
He noted that Lagos, as Nigeria’s economic hub, thrives on stability and collaboration. Ensuring clarity on land ownership and usage will support long-term development plans and protect the interests of residents while strengthening national security institutions operating within the state.
The Governor expressed confidence that the partnership will yield lasting solutions. He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fairness, accountability, and peaceful coexistence, adding that the process will ultimately benefit Lagosians and Nigerians at large by creating a foundation of clarity, trust, and shared understanding
