Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced plans to unveil 36 newly built schools across the state in the coming months, as part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen access to quality education and improve learning infrastructure.
The governor made this disclosure on Thursday after a meeting with the leadership team of Westerfield College, United Kingdom, during a courtesy visit to Lagos House, Marina. The delegation was led by the institution’s Managing Director, and the engagement focused on strategic collaboration and the future of education in Lagos State.
Governor Sanwo-Olu described the meeting as a valuable opportunity to reflect on the direction of the state’s education sector and explore partnerships that would better position Lagos students for global competitiveness. He emphasized that education remains a central pillar of his administration’s development agenda, noting that investments in infrastructure, curriculum, and international collaboration are essential to preparing young people for a rapidly changing world.
According to the governor, the planned unveiling of 36 schools underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that every child in Lagos has access to a safe, conducive, and well-equipped learning environment. He explained that the new schools are designed to address classroom shortages, reduce overcrowding, and provide students with modern facilities that support effective teaching and learning.
Governor Sanwo-Olu further stated that expanding educational opportunities goes beyond building schools, as his administration is also focused on improving teacher capacity, strengthening tertiary education, and creating pathways that connect students to global institutions and opportunities.
He reiterated his belief that no child should be left behind or denied access to education, adding that the state government is determined to build a system where every learner can thrive, regardless of background or location.
The governor expressed optimism that partnerships with reputable international institutions such as Westerfield College will help broaden students’ horizons, enhance skills development, and reinforce Lagos State’s position as a hub for educational excellence in Nigeria and beyond.
