Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been nominated for the prestigious Face of Africa Leadership Awards in recognition of his administration’s far-reaching reforms and commitment to good governance in Lagos State.
The nomination was confirmed by Mr. Femi Salako, Convener of the Face of Africa Leadership Awards, during a courtesy visit to the governor in Lagos. According to Salako, the visit was to formally present the nomination letter to Governor Sanwo-Olu and to commend his leadership style, which he said has continued to positively impact governance, infrastructure development, and service delivery in Africa’s most populous city.
Salako explained that the award committee carefully reviewed governance models across the continent before selecting Governor Sanwo-Olu, noting that Lagos has recorded notable progress under his leadership despite economic and social challenges. He cited reforms in transportation, healthcare, education, urban renewal, and digital governance as key factors that distinguished the Lagos administration.
“The Face of Africa Leadership Awards celebrate visionary leaders whose policies and actions inspire development and progress beyond their immediate environment,” Salako said. “Governor Sanwo-Olu’s leadership in Lagos represents a model of resilience, innovation, and people-centered governance that aligns with the values of this award.”
In his response, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed appreciation for the nomination, describing it as a recognition of the collective efforts of his administration and the people of Lagos State. He reiterated his commitment to sustainable development, inclusive growth, and reforms aimed at improving the quality of life for residents.
The governor also emphasized that his administration remains focused on delivering results through strategic planning and partnerships, adding that recognitions such as this serve as encouragement to do more.
