The Lagos State Government has announced a six-week traffic diversion to enable critical repair works on the Apongbon Bridge and its adjoining service lanes. The repair works are scheduled to commence on Thursday.
The announcement was made on Wednesday in a statement shared on X by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi. According to the statement, the repairs will be carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works and are aimed at fixing failed asphalt sections on key parts of the bridge to improve safety and traffic flow.
Mr. Osiyemi explained that the scope of work includes the rehabilitation of damaged asphalt on the ramp linking Inner Marina to Apongbon Bridge, as well as sections of the bridge’s inbound and outbound carriageways. He noted that the repairs are necessary to address the deteriorating road conditions and to prevent further structural damage.
During the six-week period, traffic diversions will be implemented to minimize disruptions and ensure the safety of motorists and construction workers. The commissioner urged road users to exercise patience, plan their journeys ahead of time, and adhere strictly to traffic management instructions that will be put in place throughout the duration of the project.
He also assured residents that traffic officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed to manage vehicular movement and reduce congestion in the affected areas. Alternative routes will be clearly marked to guide motorists and commuters.
The Lagos State Government reiterated its commitment to maintaining critical transport infrastructure across the state and improving road safety for all users. Residents and commuters were advised to cooperate with relevant authorities to ensure the successful and timely completion of the repair works.
The government further appealed for understanding from the public, emphasizing that the temporary inconvenience is necessary to guarantee long-term benefits and safer road conditions on the Apongbon Bridge corridor
