Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has emphasised the importance of collective action and service-driven partnerships in addressing social challenges and improving the quality of life of residents.
The Governor made this known while receiving the President of Rotary International, Francesco Arezzo, and his wife, Anna Maria Arezzo, on a courtesy visit at Lagos House, Marina.
During the visit, Governor Sanwo-Olu and the Rotary delegation engaged in a thoughtful exchange on the value of service and the type of community-focused initiatives that create lasting and meaningful impact in people’s lives. He noted that true progress is achieved when government, civil society, and international organisations work together with a shared sense of purpose.
The Governor commended Rotary International for its longstanding commitment to humanitarian service across Lagos and Nigeria, particularly in areas such as health, education, youth development, and social welfare. He described the organisation’s work as a strong example of how structured volunteerism and strategic partnerships can complement government efforts in delivering services to communities.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed the readiness of the Lagos State Government to continue engaging with reputable global organisations that share similar values of compassion, integrity, and community development. According to him, initiatives that focus on people-centred development help strengthen social cohesion and promote inclusive growth.
In his remarks, Mr. Arezzo expressed appreciation for the warm reception and highlighted Rotary International’s mission of service above self. He stressed the organisation’s interest in deepening its engagement in Lagos through projects that support vulnerable groups and promote sustainable development.
The Governor concluded that progress is strongest when all stakeholders work together, adding that partnerships rooted in service and shared responsibility remain essential to building a more prosperous and caring society for all
