Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expressed strong support for a community health initiative in Eti-Osa, reaffirming the commitment of the Lagos State Government to improving access to quality healthcare at the grassroots level.
The governor gave this assurance while commending the efforts of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria for spearheading the construction of a community clinic in the Elesan area of Eti-Osa Local Government. He described the project as a timely and impactful intervention that would significantly benefit residents, particularly those who have limited access to healthcare facilities.
Sanwo-Olu noted that the initiative reflects the importance of collaboration between government and non-governmental organisations in addressing critical social needs. According to him, while the government continues to invest in healthcare infrastructure across the state, partnerships with community-based groups remain essential in reaching underserved populations.
He emphasized that the proposed clinic would not only serve members of the Muslim community but would be open to all residents, regardless of religion or background. This inclusiveness, he said, aligns with the broader vision of building a healthier and more equitable society in Lagos.
The governor also assured that the state government would provide the necessary support to ensure the successful completion and operation of the facility. Such support, he explained, could include technical guidance, policy backing, and integration into the state’s healthcare delivery framework. He reiterated that strengthening primary healthcare remains a key priority for his administration, as it forms the foundation of an effective health system.
Sanwo-Olu further highlighted the role of preventive care and early intervention in reducing the burden on secondary and tertiary health institutions. By bringing healthcare services closer to the people, community clinics like the one being developed in Eti-Osa can help address common health issues before they become severe.
Leaders of FOMWAN, in their remarks, expressed appreciation for the governor’s recognition and pledged to ensure that the project meets high standards upon completion. They also reaffirmed their commitment to community development and social welfare through similar initiatives.
The development has been widely welcomed by residents and stakeholders, who see it as a positive step toward improving healthcare accessibility in the area. With the backing of the Lagos State Government, the project is expected to make a meaningful difference in the lives of many, reinforcing the importance of community-driven solutions in public service delivery.
