Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has presented official vehicles to top-level civil servants in Lagos as part of efforts to strengthen public service efficiency and improve staff welfare.
The presentation, which took place at the State Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, was aimed primarily at directors on Grade Level 17 across various ministries, departments, and agencies. According to the governor, the initiative is a recognition of the critical role senior civil servants play in policy implementation and governance. He noted that providing them with the necessary tools, including official vehicles, would enhance their productivity and enable them to carry out their duties more effectively.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized that a motivated and well-supported workforce remains central to the success of his administration’s development agenda. He stated that beyond infrastructure and economic growth, the government is equally committed to building a responsive and efficient civil service. The vehicles, he explained, are not just a welfare gesture but a strategic investment in better service delivery for residents of the state.
The governor also used the occasion to urge beneficiaries to justify the government’s support by demonstrating a higher level of commitment, professionalism, and accountability in their respective roles. He stressed that public servants must remain dedicated to serving the people and upholding the principles of transparency and excellence.
In addition to the vehicle distribution, Sanwo-Olu highlighted other ongoing initiatives designed to improve the welfare of civil servants. These include housing loan schemes, training and capacity development programmes, and continuous upgrades to office facilities within the state secretariat. He assured workers that his administration would continue to prioritize their well-being as a way of strengthening governance.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, some of the directors expressed appreciation to the governor for the gesture, describing it as timely and motivating. They pledged to redouble their efforts in delivering quality public service and supporting the government’s policies and programmes.
The initiative reflects the Lagos State Government’s broader commitment to institutional strengthening and public sector reform. By investing in its workforce, the administration aims to ensure that the machinery of government remains effective, responsive, and capable of meeting the growing demands of a rapidly expanding city.
