Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is set to commission a massive 36-school complex in Ajegunle, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing transformation of public education in Lagos State. The project, known as the Tolu Schools Complex, is one of the largest integrated education developments undertaken by the state government in recent years.
Located in the densely populated Ajegunle area, the complex sits on approximately 11.7 hectares of land and comprises 36 schools, including 31 secondary schools and five primary schools. The development replaces several aging and dilapidated school structures, providing students and teachers with a modern, well-equipped learning environment.
The facility is designed to meet global standards, featuring a wide range of amenities aimed at enhancing both academic and extracurricular activities. These include fully equipped science laboratories, ICT hubs, a central library, and administrative blocks. In addition, the complex boasts sports facilities such as a football pitch, athletics track, and multi-purpose courts, promoting physical development alongside academic excellence.
Special attention has also been given to inclusivity and accessibility. The buildings are equipped with elevators and ramps to accommodate students with disabilities, ensuring that no learner is left behind. There are also health facilities, a fire station, reliable water supply, solar-powered energy systems, and modern security infrastructure to guarantee safety and sustainability within the complex.
The commissioning of the Tolu Schools Complex is expected to coincide with the visit of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who will be in Lagos to inaugurate several key projects across the state. The event underscores the collaboration between the federal and state governments in driving infrastructure development and improving the quality of life for residents.
Speaking ahead of the commissioning, Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s commitment to investing in education as a cornerstone of long-term development. He noted that providing a conducive learning environment is essential for nurturing future leaders and equipping young people with the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
Residents and stakeholders have welcomed the project, describing it as a transformative initiative that will significantly improve access to quality education in Ajegunle and surrounding communities. Once operational, the complex is expected to serve thousands of students, easing overcrowding in nearby schools and raising the overall standard of public education in the area.
The Tolu Schools Complex stands as a testament to Lagos State’s ongoing efforts to modernize its education sector and create opportunities for the next generation.
