The Lagos State Government has launched the maiden Lagos Digital Health Innovation Challenge, reaffirming its commitment to transforming healthcare delivery through technology and digital innovation.
The event, held at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium in Alausa, Ikeja, brought together government officials, health-tech innovators, technology experts, development partners and investors to showcase innovative solutions designed to improve access, efficiency and the quality of healthcare services across the state.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, described the initiative as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for innovation to thrive. He commended the creativity and ingenuity of the young innovators, noting that the solutions presented have the potential to significantly improve healthcare delivery in Lagos.
According to the commissioner, the challenge featured a wide range of digital health applications addressing critical areas such as emergency care, health insurance, sickle cell disease management, neonatal survival, medication adherence and post-hospital care.
Abayomi said the innovations align with the strategic priorities of the Lagos State Government, adding that the role of government is to provide the right support and ecosystem for innovators to develop practical solutions to pressing healthcare challenges.
He stressed that by embracing technology and encouraging collaboration between the public and private sectors, Lagos is laying the foundation for a smarter, more efficient and accessible healthcare system that will benefit millions of residents.
The Digital Health Innovation Challenge underscores the state’s determination to harness innovation as a key driver of healthcare transformation while positioning Lagos as a leading hub for digital health solutions in Nigeria.
