The Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to maintain a cleaner, safer and more organised environment with a joint enforcement operation carried out along the Ketu, Ile-Epo and Mile 12 axis.
The operation was conducted by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) through its Project WISE initiative, in collaboration with the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI), the Nigeria Police Force and military personnel.
The enforcement exercise targeted illegal trading activities and unauthorised occupation of walkways and other public spaces along the busy corridor. Traders who had encroached on pedestrian walkways and road setbacks were dislodged to restore free movement and improve accessibility for pedestrians and motorists.
The exercise is part of the Lagos State Government’s ongoing efforts to tackle environmental violations, improve traffic flow and reclaim public spaces that have been unlawfully occupied.
Officials involved in the operation emphasised the need for residents and business owners to comply with environmental regulations and desist from activities that obstruct public infrastructure or create safety hazards for other road users.
The Ketu-Mile 12 corridor is one of the State’s major commercial and transportation routes, making the proper use of roads, walkways and other public spaces essential to ensuring the safety and convenience of residents and visitors.
LAWMA stated that the enforcement operation also forms part of broader efforts to prevent the reoccupation of cleared areas and stop further encroachment on public spaces.
The agency reiterated its commitment to supporting the Lagos State Government’s environmental agenda through sustained enforcement, public awareness and collaboration with relevant security and enforcement agencies.
The government urged residents, traders and other stakeholders to cooperate with enforcement authorities and make use of designated markets and approved trading locations.
The State Government reaffirmed that maintaining a clean, safe and orderly Lagos requires collective responsibility, urging everyone to support ongoing initiatives aimed at creating a more liveable city.
