The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has engaged host communities around the Ewu-Elepe Landfill in Ikorodu, including Elepe and Elenuwa, to address concerns arising from the facility’s operations.
The engagement, led by LAWMA Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, focused on strengthening collaboration with residents and finding lasting solutions to challenges affecting the communities.
Gbadegesin assured residents that their concerns had been heard, noting that permanent construction of the access roads was being planned, while palliative works would provide immediate relief.
He added that rehabilitation of the Ewu-Elepe Landfill would commence as soon as weather conditions permit. The exercise is expected to improve the facility’s operations, enhance waste disposal, ease truck movement and reduce pressure on surrounding roads.
The LAWMA boss also disclosed that the Lagos State Government was exploring partnerships to promote sustainable waste management through circular-economy initiatives, including waste-to-energy, waste-to-wealth and organic waste composting.
The engagement further underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining productive relationships with host communities while improving waste management infrastructure across Lagos.
