LAGOS — Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ending persistent blackouts and establishing a reliable, round-the-clock electricity supply across the state.
Sanwo-Olu made the commitment during a town hall meeting with key stakeholders in Lagos, where issues affecting electricity supply and the need for sustainable solutions were discussed.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the state government and stakeholders in the power sector to examine existing challenges, listen to concerns and strengthen collaborative efforts towards improving electricity supply across Lagos.
The governor acknowledged the importance of reliable electricity to the daily lives of residents and the growth of businesses across the state. He noted that stable power is essential for households, commercial activities, industries and the broader Lagos economy.
According to Sanwo-Olu, the state government understands the frustration residents and businesses experience as a result of prolonged power outages and is taking practical steps to address the situation.
“Reliable electricity is essential for our businesses, homes and the growth of our economy,” the governor said.
He acknowledged that repeated assurances about improved electricity supply could sound like familiar promises to Lagosians who have experienced years of inadequate power. However, he stressed that the government is focused on laying the necessary groundwork to make reliable electricity a reality.
Sanwo-Olu said the objective is to move Lagos towards a situation where stable electricity becomes the norm rather than the exception.
He explained that the town hall was not simply an avenue for making commitments but also provided a platform for stakeholders to engage directly, identify concerns and contribute ideas that could help improve the state’s electricity situation.
The governor emphasised the importance of collaboration among relevant stakeholders, noting that achieving sustainable electricity supply requires collective efforts and effective coordination.
He further assured residents that the government remains committed to addressing the challenges within the sector despite the work still required to achieve the desired outcome.
“There is still work to do, but we are committed to getting it right,” Sanwo-Olu said, reiterating his administration’s determination to build a Lagos where reliable electricity can support the lives and livelihoods of residents.
The push for improved electricity supply comes amid the growing demand for dependable power across Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub. Businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises, depend heavily on electricity to operate efficiently, while households require stable power for essential daily activities.
The governor’s engagement with stakeholders therefore reflects the state government’s broader focus on creating an enabling environment for economic growth and improving the quality of life for residents.
Sanwo-Olu said the administration would continue to listen to stakeholders and pursue practical measures capable of delivering lasting improvements in electricity supply.
He expressed confidence that sustained collaboration, planning and commitment would help Lagos achieve its goal of a more reliable power system.
The meeting ended with a renewed emphasis on collective action, as the state government and stakeholders continue efforts to develop a stronger electricity framework capable of supporting Lagos’ rapidly growing population, businesses and economy.
