The Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to drive digital transformation across its local governments with the commencement of a two-day capacity-building workshop for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) officers within the Unified Local Government Service.
The training, organised by the Lagos State Office of Local Government Establishments and Training (OLGE&T), was held from August 31 to September 1, 2026, at the OLGE&T Training Hall.
The workshop brought together ICT officers on Grade Levels 10 to 14 and was designed to strengthen their technical capacity and equip them with the knowledge and practical skills required to support innovation, efficiency and improved service delivery at the grassroots.
Speaking during the opening session, the Permanent Secretary of OLGE&T, Ms. Toyin Ogunlana, described ICT officers as critical enablers of modern public administration and essential partners in the State Government’s digital transformation agenda.
Ogunlana urged the participants to look beyond their traditional responsibilities as technical personnel and embrace their roles as problem-solvers and development partners who can contribute meaningfully to improving government operations.
She stressed the importance of continuous learning and professional development, particularly as technology continues to reshape the way public institutions operate and deliver services to citizens.
The Permanent Secretary noted that effective deployment of technology at the local government level would help simplify administrative processes, improve efficiency, strengthen communication and enhance access to government services.
She encouraged the officers to apply the knowledge gained during the workshop to address operational challenges within their respective local government areas and contribute to the development of more responsive and technology-driven public institutions.
The capacity-building programme forms part of the Lagos State Government’s broader efforts to strengthen the Unified Local Government Service and promote the adoption of digital tools across its administrative structures.
The State Government expressed optimism that strengthening the capacity of ICT personnel would accelerate digital innovation at the grassroots and ultimately improve the quality, speed and efficiency of public service delivery across Lagos State.
