The Lagos State Government has highlighted the vast tourism potential of the state, describing tourism as an important avenue for promoting the state’s cultural heritage, supporting livelihoods and creating new economic opportunities.
In a message commemorating World Tourism Day, the government noted that Lagos offers a wide range of attractions and experiences capable of drawing visitors from within Nigeria and across the world.
It pointed to the state’s beaches, including Tarkwa Bay and Elegushi, as well as the historic town of Badagry, which continues to attract interest because of its rich historical and cultural significance.
The government also highlighted Lagos’ vibrant festivals, food, music, arts and nightlife as key elements of the state’s tourism appeal.
According to the state government, tourism goes beyond sightseeing, as the sector contributes to economic development by creating opportunities for businesses, supporting jobs and livelihoods, attracting visitors and providing a wider platform for local culture, creativity and heritage.
It stated that the Lagos State Government has continued to invest in the promotion of tourism, arts and culture as part of efforts to strengthen the sector and position Lagos as a leading destination.
The government said investments have included the development of tourism attractions, support for events and initiatives designed to create an enabling environment for the state’s cultural and creative offerings to reach larger audiences.
It added that there remains significant potential to discover, preserve and promote more attractions and cultural experiences across Lagos.
The state government encouraged residents to see Lagos not only as a place of residence but also as a destination filled with stories, experiences and opportunities that can be shared with the global community.
It further emphasised the importance of preserving the state’s heritage while promoting its diverse cultural and creative assets to visitors.
The government wished Lagosians and tourism stakeholders a happy World Tourism Day, reaffirming its commitment to developing the sector and unlocking its wider economic and cultural benefits.
