The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), has strengthened its support for small businesses by empowering 600 market women and men, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), young adults and artisans with digital marketing skills.
The beneficiaries recently completed a three-day digital marketing training designed to equip them with practical knowledge and tools to promote their businesses, attract customers and access wider markets through digital platforms.
The programme, themed “From Local Business to Global Market: Leveraging Digital Marketing for Business Growth,” culminated in a graduation ceremony held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the Women Development Centre, Agege, Lagos.
With the latest batch of beneficiaries, the total number of residents reached through the digital empowerment initiative since its inception has risen to 1,700.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Bolaji Cecilia Dada, said the initiative was part of the Lagos State Government’s broader efforts to equip residents with relevant digital skills that can improve their businesses, livelihoods and economic opportunities.
She noted that digital technology has become increasingly important to the growth and sustainability of businesses, particularly for entrepreneurs seeking to move beyond traditional markets and reach customers across different locations.
Dada encouraged the beneficiaries to put the knowledge acquired during the training into practice by using digital platforms to showcase their products and services, build stronger customer relationships and expand their businesses.
The training is expected to help participants understand how to effectively use digital marketing tools, create visibility for their brands and take advantage of online opportunities to increase sales and business growth.
The initiative further demonstrates the state government’s commitment to promoting economic empowerment and reducing poverty by providing residents, especially women and young people, with practical skills capable of improving their earning potential.
Through programmes such as the digital marketing training, WAPA continues to support entrepreneurs and artisans in adapting to the changing business environment while positioning Lagos residents to compete more effectively in the digital economy.
