The Debt Management Office (DMO) has organised a two-day training programme on public speaking and leadership for officers on Grade Levels 08 to 12 in Lagos State, as part of efforts to strengthen their professional competence and prepare them for greater responsibilities.
The training, themed “Public Speaking and Leadership Course,” was held at NECA House, Alausa, Ikeja, bringing together officers to develop essential communication and leadership skills needed for effective service delivery.
Declaring the programme open on Wednesday, the Permanent Secretary of the DMO, Mrs. Alake Sanusi, encouraged participants to make the most of the two-day training by actively engaging in the sessions and applying the knowledge acquired to their respective roles.
Sanusi emphasised the importance of continuous learning and professional development in the public service, noting that training opportunities provide officers with the knowledge and confidence required to take on higher responsibilities.
She urged the participants to view the programme as an opportunity to broaden their knowledge, improve their communication abilities and strengthen their leadership capacity.
According to the Permanent Secretary, the training was designed to equip officers with the necessary skills to communicate effectively, lead teams and perform their duties with greater efficiency and professionalism.
Public speaking remains an important skill for public servants, enabling them to present ideas clearly, communicate government policies and engage confidently with colleagues, stakeholders and members of the public.
Similarly, leadership development is essential for improving decision-making, promoting teamwork and ensuring that public officers are adequately prepared to manage responsibilities as they progress in their careers.
The two-day programme is expected to provide participants with practical knowledge that can improve their performance and contribute to a more efficient and responsive public service.
The initiative also underscores the importance of investing in the capacity development of government employees to strengthen institutional effectiveness and promote professionalism across public sector organisations.
The DMO expressed the need for officers to take advantage of such opportunities to enhance their skills, improve workplace performance and prepare for future leadership positions within the public service.
