The Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has recorded another significant achievement in its commitment to protecting consumers’ rights, following the successful resolution of 528 electricity-related complaints against Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC).
The intervention, facilitated by the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), resulted in credit adjustments and refunds amounting to N26,243,758.75 between January and September 2026.
The development reflects the state government’s continued efforts to promote accountability, transparency, fairness and improved service delivery across essential sectors, particularly electricity distribution.
According to the agency, 556 complaints were received against Ikeja Electric during the nine-month period, out of which 528 were successfully resolved, representing an impressive resolution rate of approximately 95 per cent. The remaining 28 complaints are undergoing further attention.
Speaking on the achievement, the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo, Esq., reaffirmed the agency’s determination to safeguard residents against unfair practices while ensuring that electricity consumers receive appropriate treatment from service providers.
Solebo emphasised the importance of strengthening consumer confidence through effective complaint resolution, regulatory engagement and sustained advocacy for improved electricity services.
The achievement further highlights the importance of consumer protection institutions in addressing billing disputes, service-related grievances and other challenges confronting electricity users across Lagos State.
Under Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration, consumer protection remains an important component of efforts to promote responsible business practices and protect residents’ economic interests.
The latest intervention demonstrates LASCOPA’s growing effectiveness in resolving disputes between consumers and electricity distribution companies.
It also reinforces the need for service providers to uphold transparency, maintain accurate billing systems and respond promptly to legitimate consumer complaints.
The Lagos State Government continues to encourage residents to report unfair practices through appropriate channels, strengthening public confidence in consumer protection mechanisms and promoting greater accountability across the electricity distribution sector.
