The Lagos State Government has unveiled plans to extend the Red Line rail project beyond the state, marking a significant step toward regional transportation integration and improved connectivity. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu disclosed that the rail line, which currently serves key corridors within Lagos, will be expanded into neighboring areas to accommodate the growing movement of people across state boundaries.
According to the governor, the proposed extension will link Lagos with parts of Ogun State, providing a reliable alternative for thousands of daily commuters who travel between both states for work and business. He noted that the move is part of a broader strategy to address congestion on major highways and reduce travel time significantly.
Sanwo-Olu explained that the Red Line is designed as a high-capacity transport system capable of moving up to 500,000 passengers daily when fully operational.
