The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, has commended Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for their efforts in tackling the growing threat of kidnapping and banditry within their states.
The organisation also lauded the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, including the Inspector-General of Police and Commissioners of Police in both states, for intensifying security operations aimed at protecting lives and property.
In a statement, Afenifere described the recent anti-kidnapping initiatives and coordinated security measures as timely and necessary responses to the rising concerns over criminal activities in parts of the South-West. The group noted that the actions taken by the governors and security agencies have demonstrated a strong commitment to ensuring public safety and restoring confidence among residents.
According to the organisation, the collaboration between state governments and security agencies has yielded positive results, particularly in efforts to dismantle criminal networks, strengthen intelligence gathering, and improve surveillance in vulnerable areas. Afenifere stressed that sustained cooperation among all stakeholders remains essential in addressing security challenges across the region.
The group further urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing useful information that could aid the fight against crime. It emphasized that community participation is critical to achieving lasting peace and security.
Afenifere expressed optimism that the ongoing security operations in Lagos and Ogun states would further reduce incidents of kidnapping and banditry, while creating a safer environment for economic activities and social development.
The organisation reaffirmed its support for all lawful measures aimed at safeguarding communities and preserving stability across the South-West region.
