Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called for stronger collaboration between government, civil society organisations (CSOs), and community-based organisations (CBOs) to promote good governance and accelerate national development.
The governor made the call while speaking at the National Summit of Civil Society Organisations and Community-Based Organisations, where stakeholders gathered to discuss the role of citizens and civic groups in shaping Nigeria’s future.
Sanwo-Olu said the summit provided an opportunity to reflect on the collective responsibility of government and citizens in building a more prosperous and united nation. He stressed that the “Nigeria First” initiative is a call for every Nigerian to place the country’s interests above personal, ethnic, or political differences and work together for the common good.
According to the governor, meaningful progress can only be achieved when governments engage citizens openly and embrace constructive partnerships with civil society organisations. He described CSOs as vital partners in governance, noting that they play a critical role in promoting accountability, transparency, and inclusive development.
Sanwo-Olu said the Lagos State Government has consistently prioritised citizen engagement in policy formulation and implementation, adding that the state’s development agenda has been strengthened through regular consultations with residents and relevant stakeholders.
He maintained that policies are more effective when they reflect the needs and aspirations of the people they are designed to serve. The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining open dialogue and fostering stronger relationships with civic organisations to ensure inclusive governance.
Sanwo-Olu urged all stakeholders to embrace unity, honesty, and a shared sense of purpose in addressing Nigeria’s challenges. He expressed confidence that stronger cooperation between government, civil society, and communities would lead to better decision-making, improved public service delivery, and sustainable national development.
He reiterated that Lagos would continue to champion participatory governance as part of its commitment to building a more inclusive, responsive, and people-centred government.
