Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commended the establishment of a permanent headquarters for the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC), describing the development as a significant milestone in strengthening the country’s financial regulatory institutions.
Sanwo-Olu stated that the FRC’s new permanent home in the heart of Lagos marked the end of more than four decades of operating from rented facilities. He noted that the development represented more than the provision of office accommodation, stressing that strong institutions require solid foundations to effectively deliver on their mandates.
According to the Governor, the new headquarters will provide the Financial Reporting Council with a more conducive environment to carry out its regulatory responsibilities and improve the quality of financial reporting and corporate governance in Nigeria.
He said a permanent and well-equipped institutional base would enhance the Council’s capacity to provide effective oversight, promote accountability and strengthen confidence among investors and other stakeholders in the Nigerian economy.
Sanwo-Olu emphasised the strategic importance of the FRC to Nigeria’s financial and corporate sectors, noting that effective regulation and transparent financial reporting remain critical to attracting investment and sustaining economic growth.
The Governor expressed optimism that the new facility would enable the Council to operate more efficiently and respond more effectively to emerging challenges within Nigeria’s financial reporting and corporate governance landscape.
He also highlighted Lagos’ position as Nigeria’s leading commercial and financial hub, saying the location of the FRC’s permanent headquarters in the state further reinforces Lagos’ role in supporting institutions that contribute to national economic development.
Sanwo-Olu said the development would help drive faster regulatory oversight while creating an environment capable of promoting greater investor confidence across the country.
He congratulated the FRC and its leadership on the achievement, expressing confidence that the new headquarters would serve as a strong foundation for the Council’s continued growth, efficiency and contribution to Nigeria’s economic development.
