Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called for stronger collaboration between governments and the private sector to accelerate the growth of Africa’s digital economy and unlock new opportunities across the continent.
Sanwo-Olu made the call in New York, where he participated in the Africa Forward: Investing in the Next Decade of Growth Executive Roundtable, organised by Flutterwave and Invest Africa.
The Governor said discussions at the high-level gathering focused on strategies for scaling Africa’s digital economy and developing effective partnerships capable of supporting sustainable growth over the next decade.
He noted that the presence of leaders from the business, financial and government sectors demonstrated a shared interest in exploring Africa’s economic potential and identifying practical ways to drive investment and innovation.
According to Sanwo-Olu, unlocking the continent’s potential would require meaningful cooperation between the public and private sectors, particularly in areas that can expand economic opportunities and strengthen digital infrastructure.
He said Africa’s rapidly evolving digital economy presented significant opportunities for investment, job creation and business expansion, stressing the importance of building partnerships that could translate these opportunities into sustainable development.
The Governor highlighted Lagos’ position as one of Africa’s major commercial and economic centres, saying the state remained open to partnerships that would support job creation, innovation and economic growth.
He added that Lagos was committed to strengthening its position as a leading digital and business hub on the continent by creating an environment capable of attracting investments and supporting businesses.
Sanwo-Olu said continued engagement among governments, businesses and financial institutions would be essential to building an inclusive and competitive African economy.
He expressed optimism that the conversations at the roundtable would contribute to stronger partnerships and initiatives capable of advancing Africa’s digital transformation.
The Governor reiterated Lagos State’s readiness to work with local and international partners to create opportunities for its growing population while contributing to Africa’s broader economic development.
