President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving access to quality healthcare for Nigerians, regardless of their income level or geographical location.
The President stated that his government, through the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, had embarked on an ambitious transformation of the country’s healthcare sector since assuming office.
Tinubu made this known in a statement shared through his official social media account, highlighting several initiatives aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery, improving public health outcomes and making medical services more accessible to citizens.
According to the President, the administration is revitalising Primary Healthcare Centres across the country to ensure that more Nigerians can access essential medical services within their communities.
He also highlighted efforts to expand health insurance coverage, noting the importance of reducing the financial burden associated with accessing medical treatment, particularly for vulnerable households.
The President further emphasised the government’s commitment to protecting millions of children through immunisation programmes, improving maternal and child healthcare, and strengthening the country’s health workforce.
Tinubu explained that upgrading specialist hospitals remained another important component of the ongoing reforms, with the objective of improving the quality of medical treatment available within Nigeria and reducing the need for citizens to seek certain treatments abroad.
In addition, the administration is working to position Nigeria as a major destination for pharmaceutical manufacturing and healthcare investment. The initiative is expected to strengthen local production capacity, attract investors and improve access to essential medicines.
The President maintained that a stronger healthcare system was crucial to national development, economic productivity and the overall well-being of citizens.
He stressed that the reforms were designed to address longstanding challenges in the health sector while establishing a more accessible, efficient and sustainable system.
The initiatives form part of the Tinubu administration’s broader development agenda, which prioritises improving public services and expanding opportunities for Nigerians.
The government’s stated objective is to build a healthcare system that delivers better outcomes and ensures that access to quality medical care is not determined by income or location.
