Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare of teachers, healthcare workers and other essential personnel while sustaining the development achievements of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
Hamzat made this known during an appearance on The Conversation: One-on-One programme on LTV8, where he discussed the Greater Lagos agenda, youth empowerment, infrastructure development and the future of the state.
Speaking during the programme, the deputy governor highlighted the daily challenges faced by teachers and healthcare professionals who travel long distances to their workplaces, noting that such difficulties can affect their productivity, energy and ability to deliver essential services.
He stressed the need for practical measures to make commuting easier and improve the overall working conditions of these professionals.
According to Hamzat, possible interventions include providing more affordable and convenient transportation options, reviewing transport allowances for teachers and developing housing facilities closer to workplaces for doctors, nurses and other essential workers.
He also highlighted the 68 flats already provided for medical personnel in Ojo as a positive step towards addressing accommodation challenges among healthcare workers.
The deputy governor expressed his intention to build on the existing progress, explaining that supporting essential workers remains important to improving service delivery and strengthening public institutions.
Hamzat further emphasised the need to sustain the achievements recorded under Governor Sanwo-Olu while identifying better ways to address the everyday concerns of Lagos residents.
He explained that continuity in governance should go beyond completing existing projects to include learning from experience, listening to citizens and introducing improvements where necessary.
On youth empowerment, the deputy governor reiterated the importance of creating opportunities for young people to develop their abilities and contribute meaningfully to the state’s growth.
He maintained that the vision for Lagos should include improved infrastructure, stronger support for workers and equal opportunities for residents to succeed.
Hamzat concluded by stressing the importance of collective efforts in building a Lagos where essential workers are supported, young people can fulfil their potential and every resident has a fair opportunity to thrive.
