Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has strengthened efforts to promote women’s economic empowerment with the distribution of empowerment items to 2,500 women across the South-East geopolitical zone through the Renewed Hope Initiative.
The programme, launched in September 2026, was designed to support small businesses, promote financial independence among women and create sustainable livelihood opportunities across the region.
The initiative reflects the Renewed Hope Initiative’s commitment to improving the economic well-being of women by providing resources that can help them expand existing businesses, develop entrepreneurial skills and establish sustainable sources of income.
Through the distribution of empowerment items, beneficiaries are expected to receive support that can improve their business activities, strengthen household finances and contribute to economic development within their communities.
Women-owned businesses play an important role in Nigeria’s economy, particularly in the informal sector, where many entrepreneurs depend on small-scale trading, food processing, agriculture, fashion and other commercial activities to support their families.
By targeting 2,500 women across the South-East, the programme seeks to widen access to economic opportunities and encourage greater participation of women in productive activities.
The initiative also aligns with broader efforts to address economic challenges affecting vulnerable groups and promote inclusive growth by supporting women who may face difficulties accessing capital and other resources needed to grow their businesses.
The Renewed Hope Initiative, championed by the First Lady, has continued to pursue programmes focused on social welfare, economic empowerment and improved opportunities for women, children and other vulnerable groups.
The intervention underscores the importance of targeted empowerment programmes in promoting entrepreneurship, strengthening livelihoods and supporting women’s contributions to Nigeria’s economic development.
