Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to expanding opportunities for women in business, leadership and public service.
Hamzat made this known after attending the 25th Annual Conference of the Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ), which marked 25 years of promoting women’s leadership and participation in different sectors.
The Deputy Governor commended WIMBIZ for its contributions to advancing women’s empowerment, noting that the organisation has continued to create platforms for recognising the achievements and potential of African women.
He stressed that the future development of Lagos would be strengthened by ensuring that more women have opportunities to lead, establish businesses and participate in decisions that shape society.
Hamzat acknowledged that although Lagos has recorded progress in promoting women’s inclusion, more efforts are required to eliminate barriers and create an environment where women can thrive and compete successfully on the global stage.
He explained that these objectives align with The Lagos PROMISE, particularly its commitments to Opportunity and Inclusion, which seek to expand economic participation and create more pathways for women to access opportunities.
The Deputy Governor further emphasised the importance of building on WIMBIZ’s 25-year legacy by strengthening support systems that enable women to grow their businesses, assume leadership positions and contribute meaningfully to economic development.
He maintained that empowering women remains an important part of building an inclusive and prosperous Lagos.
