Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has officially launched the construction of the 540-metre Alhaji Jimoh Drive/Baptist Church Street in Jagemo, Ijegun, under the Iba Local Council Development Area (LCDA). The project, being executed through the Office of Rural Development, is part of the State Government’s continuous efforts to enhance road connectivity, promote economic activities, and improve the quality of life in rural and semi-urban communities across Lagos State.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s commitment to delivering infrastructure that supports inclusive growth and ensures that every part of the State feels the impact of government. He noted that the road, when completed, would provide residents with better access to major routes, reduce travel time, ease movement of goods and services, and boost local commerce in Ijegun and its environs.
According to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Agbaje, the project will be completed within six months and delivered to the highest construction standards. He explained that the new road will feature reinforced concrete drains, walkways, and durable asphalt surfacing designed to withstand heavy rainfall and vehicular pressure.
Dr. Agbaje added that the project forms part of the larger Lagos Rural Infrastructure Development Plan, which seeks to open up inner communities, attract investment, and discourage rural-urban migration. He assured residents that the government will continue to prioritize road projects that directly impact livelihoods and promote sustainable development at the grassroots.
Residents and community leaders of Ijegun expressed their appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu and his team for bringing the project to fruition. They noted that the road, once completed, will not only improve accessibility but also enhance property value and create new economic opportunities for local businesses.
Governor Sanwo-Olu urged residents to take ownership of the project by safeguarding the infrastructure and supporting the government’s developmental agenda. He reaffirmed his administration’s determination to ensure equitable distribution of projects across all Local Government Areas and LCDAs, in line with the THEMES+ agenda of the Lagos State Government.
