The Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, has called on public servants across the state to make their health a top priority by embracing regular medical check-ups and healthy lifestyle practices to prevent diseases and improve their overall well-being.
Agoro made the appeal during the August edition of the monthly Walk for Fitness exercise held at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, on Saturday, August 1, 2026.
Speaking at the event, the Head of Service stressed the importance of early detection and prevention of illnesses through routine medical examinations, noting that many health conditions can be effectively managed when identified at an early stage. He encouraged civil servants not to wait until they become ill before seeking medical attention.
According to him, a healthy workforce remains the foundation of an effective and productive public service, as the physical and mental well-being of employees directly influences the quality of service delivered to residents.
Agoro emphasised that maintaining good health is a shared responsibility between individuals and their employers. While the government will continue to provide initiatives that promote staff welfare, he urged workers to take personal responsibility by engaging in regular physical exercise, eating balanced diets, getting adequate rest and attending routine health screenings.
He described the monthly Walk for Fitness programme as one of the state’s wellness initiatives aimed at encouraging healthy living among public servants, promoting physical fitness and fostering a culture of preventive healthcare within the civil service.
The Head of Service reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to improving the welfare of its workforce through policies and programmes that support healthier lifestyles. He urged all public servants to remain committed to activities that enhance their physical and mental well-being, noting that a healthy workforce is vital to efficient service delivery and the continued development of Lagos State.
