The Lagos State Government has empowered 150 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) by facilitating the registration of their businesses with the Corporate Affairs Commission and providing enterprise development training aimed at strengthening disability-owned businesses across the state.
The empowerment programme, organised by the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs, was held on Monday at the STO Resource Centre Hall, Alausa, Ikeja, under the theme, “Beyond Limits: Building Sustainable and Compliant Enterprises.”
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Oluwatoyin Oke-Osayintolu, described the initiative as a demonstration of the State Government’s commitment to promoting economic inclusion, entrepreneurship and self-reliance among Persons with Disabilities.
She noted that supporting disability-owned businesses through formal registration and enterprise development would improve access to business opportunities, enhance credibility and position beneficiaries for sustainable growth.
According to the Permanent Secretary, the programme is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to build compliant, resilient and competitive businesses while encouraging financial independence and long-term economic empowerment.
The initiative also underscores the Lagos State Government’s broader commitment to creating an inclusive society where every resident, regardless of physical ability, has equal access to opportunities for economic participation and prosperity.
Beneficiaries received guidance on business registration processes, enterprise management and other practical skills aimed at helping them expand their businesses and contribute meaningfully to the state’s economy.
The programme forms part of ongoing efforts by LASODA to promote the rights, welfare and socio-economic development of Persons with Disabilities, ensuring they are fully integrated into Lagos State’s economic growth and development agenda.
