Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has called for renewed commitment to unity, discipline, and visionary leadership as Nigeria charts a path toward long-term progress. The governor made this call on Wednesday in Kaduna during a visit to Arewa House, the historic residence of the late Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s journey at 65 years of independence, Sanwo-Olu said standing in the home of one of the nation’s founding fathers was a powerful reminder of the courage and foresight that shaped Nigeria’s early years. He described Sir Ahmadu Bello as a symbol of selfless service and human development whose leadership values remain relevant today.
Sanwo-Olu drew a parallel between the Sardauna’s vision and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said is designed to rebuild Nigeria’s foundation through bold and necessary reforms. He noted that measures such as fuel subsidy removal, tax and fiscal reforms, and the push for state policing reflect a commitment to strengthening the economy, ensuring accountability, and promoting inclusive growth.
“Leadership is about legacy,” Sanwo-Olu said. “We must ask ourselves if our actions reflect the devotion to unity, justice, and progress demonstrated by those who came before us.”
He emphasized that Nigeria’s diversity remains one of its greatest strengths, adding that progress depends on the collective effort of citizens across all regions and cultures. According to him, the Tinubu administration’s policies, though challenging in the short term, are vital to securing a fairer, stronger future for all Nigerians.
Sanwo-Olu urged continued faith in the nation’s leadership, stressing that through shared sacrifice and renewed hope, Nigeria can achieve the prosperous and inclusive future envisioned by its founding leaders.
