
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has lauded the Nigerian Army, particularly the 81 Division, for its consistent efforts in maintaining peace, safety, and security of lives and property across Lagos State. He described the Army’s role as critical to the stability and economic growth of the state.
The governor gave the commendation during the Combined 2025 West African Social Activities (WASA) of the Headquarters 81 Division Nigerian Army, Nigerian Army Engineers, and the 9 Brigade Nigerian Army. The colourful event was held at the 9 Brigade Parade Ground, TA Lagbaja Cantonment, Ikeja, Lagos, and attracted senior military officers, government officials, and other stakeholders.
Represented by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Toyin Akinmade Ayinde, Sanwo-Olu praised the professionalism, discipline, and sacrifices of officers and soldiers of the Division. He noted that their unwavering dedication has continued to play a vital role in keeping Lagos peaceful despite its status as Nigeria’s most populous and economically active state.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s strong partnership with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies, stressing that security remains a top priority of his administration. He assured the military of continued support, collaboration, and provision of resources aimed at enhancing their operational effectiveness.
The governor particularly highlighted the impact of Operation MESA, the joint security initiative involving the Army and other security agencies, noting that it has significantly improved response to security challenges and boosted public confidence across the state.
He further emphasized that the annual WASA event is not only a celebration of cultural heritage and military traditions but also an opportunity to strengthen civil-military relations. According to him, such interactions foster mutual understanding and reinforce cooperation between the armed forces and the civilian population.
