Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has received renowned artist and Guinness World Record holder, Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke, alongside representatives of the Kanyeyachukwu Autism Foundation, the Cycling Federation of Nigeria, and the Cycology Cycling Group.
The governor described the visit as a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusion and the need to focus on people’s abilities rather than their limitations. He noted that Kanyeyachukwu’s achievements demonstrate how talent, determination, and community support can combine to produce extraordinary results.
Sanwo-Olu said society too often places emphasis on what individuals cannot do, rather than recognising their potential and strengths. He stressed that Kanyeyachukwu’s artistic accomplishments stand as evidence that ability exists in many forms and should be nurtured wherever it is found.
The governor commended the Kanyeyachukwu Autism Foundation and its partners for their efforts in promoting creativity, inclusion, and positive role models, particularly for young people facing developmental and social challenges. He acknowledged their role in providing support structures that help individuals with autism and other conditions express their talents and live purposeful lives.
According to him, building an inclusive society requires deliberate action and sustained commitment from both government and private organisations. He said the Lagos State Government remains focused on creating an environment where everyone, regardless of background or physical or developmental challenges, can thrive.
“Our responsibility is to build a Lagos where there is genuine space for everyone to succeed,” the governor stated. “We must continue to foster a society that recognises ability, supports purpose, and creates opportunities for all.”
Sanwo-Olu added that initiatives that promote inclusion and creativity are essential to shaping a compassionate and progressive society. He encouraged young people facing unique challenges to remain confident in their abilities and assured them of the government’s continued support.
Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo-Okeke is widely celebrated for his artistic talent and record-breaking achievements, which have brought international recognition and renewed attention to the creative potential of persons with autism.
