The Nigeria Police Force has assured residents of Lagos State that stronger security measures are being introduced to improve public safety and tackle criminal activities across the state. The assurance was given following a strategic meeting between the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Olohundare Jimoh, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at Lagos House, Ikeja.
During the meeting, security officials discussed the current security situation in Lagos and reviewed strategies aimed at strengthening law enforcement operations in various parts of the state. The police leadership emphasized that maintaining peace and protecting lives and property remain top priorities, especially as Lagos continues to grow rapidly in population and economic activities.
AIG Jimoh assured residents that the police would intensify surveillance operations, intelligence gathering, and patrol activities to reduce crime and improve response times to emergencies. According to him, law enforcement agencies are also working closely with the Lagos State Government and other security stakeholders to ensure better coordination in addressing security challenges.
The police authorities noted that special attention would be given to combating armed robbery, cult-related violence, traffic-related crimes, and other forms of criminal activity that affect residents and businesses. They also highlighted the importance of community policing and encouraged Lagosians to support security agencies by sharing useful information that could help prevent crimes.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies through the provision of logistics, operational vehicles, communication equipment, and other necessary resources. He stressed that security remains a key part of the state government’s development agenda because economic growth and social stability can only thrive in a peaceful environment.
The governor further commended the efforts of police officers and other security personnel serving in Lagos, acknowledging the challenges they face in policing one of Africa’s busiest and most densely populated cities. He urged security agencies to continue operating professionally while maintaining strong relationships with local communities.
Residents and business owners across Lagos have repeatedly called for increased security presence in high-traffic areas, residential communities, and commercial districts. The renewed commitment from both the police and the state government is expected to boost public confidence and strengthen efforts to curb criminal activities.
Authorities also revealed that security operations would increasingly rely on technology-driven solutions, intelligence sharing, and rapid-response systems to improve efficiency. As Lagos continues to expand economically and socially, officials believe that proactive policing and stronger collaboration between government agencies and residents will be essential in maintaining law and order across the state.
