
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has joined members of the Yoruba Tennis Club in celebrating the organisation’s 100 years of existence, describing the centenary milestone as a reflection of the enduring values, unity and resilience that have contributed to the development of Lagos.
The governor, while commemorating the historic occasion, noted that the centenary celebration provides an opportunity to reflect on the legacy of an institution that has remained an important part of Lagos’ social and cultural history across generations.
According to Sanwo-Olu, the story of the Yoruba Tennis Club is closely connected to the values of community, friendship, service and commitment, which have helped shape the character of Lagos over the years.
He described the Lagos spirit as one defined by resilience, determination and an unwavering commitment to progress, noting that these qualities continue to inspire the State Government’s efforts to build a greater and more prosperous Lagos.
The governor said the journey of the Yoruba Tennis Club over the past century demonstrates the importance of institutions that preserve traditions while adapting to changing times.
He also emphasised the need for present and future generations to sustain the values that have contributed to Lagos’ growth, stressing that development goes beyond infrastructure and includes the preservation of institutions, relationships and shared values.
