Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the state’s agricultural sector as part of efforts to improve food security, create jobs and make nutritious food more accessible to residents.
Sanwo-Olu said the state government is investing across different areas of agriculture, including crop production, livestock development, mechanisation and the provision of agricultural inputs to support farmers and increase productivity.
The Governor noted that agriculture remains a critical part of Lagos’ economic development, stressing the need to build a stronger food system that benefits farmers, consumers and other stakeholders across the value chain.
According to him, the administration’s interventions are aimed at creating more opportunities for farmers while improving the capacity of the sector to meet the growing food needs of the state’s large population.
Sanwo-Olu also highlighted the importance of reducing food losses and improving the efficiency of the agricultural value chain. He said stronger investments in production, processing, distribution and other related activities would help ensure that more Lagosians have access to safe, nutritious and affordable food.
The Governor said the state’s agricultural initiatives are also designed to create employment opportunities for residents, particularly young people, while encouraging greater participation in farming and agribusiness.
He stressed that the government would continue to support farmers with the resources and infrastructure needed to expand production and improve their livelihoods.
Sanwo-Olu said his administration remains focused on building a productive and sustainable agricultural sector capable of contributing significantly to Lagos’ economy and strengthening food security.
He assured farmers and other stakeholders that the government would continue to invest in the entire food value chain, from farm production to the table, as part of its broader vision of building a more prosperous and resilient Lagos.
