The Lagos State Government has appealed to motorists to remain patient and cooperate with traffic management officials following severe congestion along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, particularly around the Kara Bridge axis.
The traffic situation was attributed to a fallen truck and ongoing construction and repair works around the Kara Bridge, which have affected the smooth movement of vehicles along the major highway.
Speaking on Wednesday, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Olawale Musa, disclosed that the fallen truck had been successfully evacuated from the road by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
He, however, explained that the traffic situation had been further compounded by the actions of some motorists who drove against traffic, commonly referred to as one-way driving.
Musa condemned the practice, noting that driving against traffic could further worsen congestion and create additional safety risks for motorists and other road users.
To address the situation, the Permanent Secretary said the Ministry had deployed additional traffic officers to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway axis to improve traffic management and facilitate the movement of vehicles.
He added that the Ministry was working closely with relevant stakeholders to find practical solutions to the congestion and minimise the inconvenience being experienced by commuters.
Among the agencies involved are the Lagos State and Ogun State Police Commands, the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), and LASTMA.
Musa urged motorists to obey the instructions of traffic officers and avoid actions that could further obstruct traffic flow.
He also appealed to road users to exercise patience while construction activities continue around the Kara Bridge, stressing the importance of cooperation in managing the temporary challenges.
The Lagos State Government assured motorists that efforts would continue in collaboration with relevant agencies to ease the congestion and improve traffic flow along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway corridor.
The government urged commuters to remain calm, follow designated traffic routes and prioritise safety while authorities work to restore smoother movement in the affected areas.
