The Campaign for Dignity in Governance has commended former Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, for his emphasis on reconciliation, unity and constructive engagement among All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in the South-West ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Convener of the group, Razaq Olokoba, described Fashola’s intervention at the recent South-West stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos as an important reminder that political strength is built not only through structures and leadership positions but also through the ability to manage disagreements and bring people together.
At the meeting organised by the South-West Directorate of Stakeholders Mobilisation of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Fashola urged party leaders to reach out to members who felt aggrieved or marginalised, particularly those who had lost in previous party contests.
Olokoba said the message reflected the importance of inclusive leadership and the need to ensure that internal disagreements do not become lasting divisions.
According to him, political organisations must recognise that members who hold different views or have experienced disappointments remain important stakeholders whose contributions should not be ignored.
He noted that Fashola’s call for reconciliation was particularly relevant at a time when political organisations are preparing for another electoral cycle and need effective communication, mutual respect and cooperation among their members.
The Convener also highlighted the former Governor’s proposal for stronger engagement structures across the states, local government areas and wards, saying such arrangements could help improve communication and address concerns at different levels.
The meeting brought together prominent political figures from across the South-West, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, former Ondo State Governor Dr. Olusegun Mimiko and former Ekiti State Governor Otunba Niyi Adebayo.
Olokoba said the gathering demonstrated the importance of consultation among political stakeholders and the need to sustain conversations that strengthen institutional relationships.
He added that reconciliation should not be treated as a temporary political strategy but as a continuing responsibility of leadership.
The Campaign for Dignity in Governance reaffirmed its commitment to promoting responsible leadership, democratic participation, accountability and constructive dialogue as essential foundations for strong institutions.
