Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has acknowledged the difficulties faced by residents and motorists following a multiple accident involving trucks at the Kara Bridge, which has caused significant traffic congestion for commuters travelling out of Lagos and those heading to different destinations within the metropolis.
The governor expressed concern over the situation, noting that the accident has added to the challenges already being experienced by motorists due to ongoing repair works on the bridge.
According to Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), emergency response teams, security agencies and other traffic management personnel have been deployed to the area to manage the situation, ease congestion and ensure the movement of vehicles.
He explained that the ongoing repair work on the bridge is expected to continue for approximately two weeks. During this period, traffic management operations will be carried out on the available side of the bridge to reduce the impact of the construction on motorists.
Sanwo-Olu appealed to motorists using the route to remain patient and cooperate with traffic management officials as efforts continue to restore normal traffic flow.
He urged drivers to obey instructions from LASTMA officials and other authorised personnel deployed to manage the situation, stressing that compliance with traffic directions would help prevent further delays and ensure the safety of road users.
The governor also encouraged motorists to plan their journeys ahead of time and, where possible, consider alternative routes while the repair works continue.
He assured Lagosians that relevant government agencies are working together to address the situation and minimise the inconvenience caused by the accident and ongoing repairs.
Sanwo-Olu further appealed to motorists to exercise caution while travelling through the affected area, particularly around the bridge and adjoining routes.
He acknowledged the frustration being experienced by commuters and urged residents to prioritise safety as authorities continue efforts to ease the traffic situation and complete the necessary repairs.
