Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed sadness over the death of veteran Nigerian actor, Oludotun Bayegun Jacobs, MON, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, describing him as an icon whose contributions helped shape the country’s entertainment industry.
Sanwo-Olu, in a condolence message, paid tribute to the late actor’s remarkable career and enduring influence on Nigerian cinema. He described Jacobs as a pillar of modern Nigerian entertainment who dedicated more than five decades to acting and creative expression.
According to the governor, Jacobs brought professionalism, grace and emotional depth to his performances, earning widespread respect and admiration from audiences, colleagues and generations of Nigerian creatives.
He noted that the veteran actor’s career went beyond entertainment, as his work contributed significantly to the growth of Nigeria’s cultural identity and helped create opportunities and inspiration for younger talents in the creative industry.
Sanwo-Olu said Jacobs’ remarkable presence on stage and screen made him one of the most respected figures in Nigerian entertainment, adding that his body of work would continue to remain relevant and cherished by audiences for years to come.
The governor also acknowledged the impact of the actor’s contributions on the development of the Nigerian film industry, noting that his legacy would live on through the many actors and creatives he inspired throughout his career.
Sanwo-Olu extended his condolences to Jacobs’ wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, as well as members of his family, friends, colleagues and admirers across Nigeria and beyond.
He offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the deceased and asked God to grant his loved ones the strength and comfort needed to cope with the loss.
The governor said the Nigerian entertainment industry had lost a distinguished figure whose talent, dedication and contributions would not be forgotten.
