Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has explored opportunities for collaboration with the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) to promote research-driven policies and strengthen Nigeria’s creative and cultural industries.
Sanwo-Olu disclosed this after hosting the leadership of NIPSS, led by its Director-General, Professor Ayo Omotayo, at Lagos House, Marina.
The meeting focused on the role of research, strategic planning and sound policymaking in addressing national challenges and supporting sustainable economic development.
According to the governor, discussions also covered potential collaboration with NIPSS on the National Summit on Promoting the Orange Economy, an initiative organised in partnership with Bruit Costaud to support the growth of Nigeria’s creative and cultural sectors.
The Orange Economy encompasses industries that derive their value from creativity, culture, talent and intellectual property, including entertainment, fashion, music, film, design and other creative enterprises.
Sanwo-Olu highlighted the significant potential of these industries to generate employment, encourage innovation and create economic opportunities, particularly for young Nigerians seeking to build careers and businesses in the creative sector.
He stressed that partnerships between government and research institutions were essential to transforming innovative ideas and research findings into practical policies capable of improving livelihoods and strengthening the national economy.
The governor reaffirmed Lagos State’s commitment to working with institutions such as NIPSS to develop solutions that support economic growth, expand opportunities for young people and maximise the state’s creative potential.
The engagement underscores the importance of evidence-based policymaking and strategic partnerships in advancing Nigeria’s development priorities.
With Lagos serving as a major centre for Nigeria’s entertainment, fashion, film and cultural industries, stronger collaboration between government and policy institutions could help unlock further investment, create jobs and position the creative economy as a significant contributor to national prosperity.
