Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed excitement over the newly restored Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, describing its reopening as a significant moment for the state’s cultural and creative sector.
The governor shared his thoughts following the gathering of writers, designers, performers and other creative professionals from across Africa at the restored facility.
Sanwo-Olu noted that the presence of creatives from different parts of the continent reflected the growing influence of African creativity and the importance of providing platforms where talents can be discovered, celebrated and developed.
He emphasised that Lagos remains committed to creating an enabling environment for young people and professionals in the creative industry to showcase their abilities, tell their stories and contribute to the development of the continent’s cultural identity.
According to the governor, Africa possesses enormous creative potential, which deserves greater recognition and opportunities for global expression.
He further reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting the creative community, particularly young Nigerians seeking opportunities to build careers in arts, entertainment, fashion, literature and other creative fields.
The restoration of the Wole Soyinka Centre is expected to strengthen Lagos’ cultural landscape by providing a platform for artistic expression, cultural exchange and creative collaboration.
Sanwo-Olu maintained that Lagos would continue to support initiatives that empower creatives and enable them to take ownership of their narratives while showcasing African culture to the world.
