The Campaign for Dignity Governance has commended the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, following the announcement that the state has surpassed the ₦1.7 trillion revenue mark, describing the achievement as a historic milestone in fiscal management, economic resilience, and governance innovation.
In a statement issued in Lagos, the Convener of the group, Razaq Olokoba, described the development as a clear demonstration of disciplined leadership, strategic planning, and an unwavering commitment to building a financially sustainable state.
According to Olokoba, revenue generation remains one of the most critical indicators of governance effectiveness, as it reflects not only economic activity but also the efficiency of systems, transparency of processes, and the level of public trust in government institutions.
“To cross the ₦1.7 trillion threshold is not just a number — it is a statement of capacity, vision, and institutional strength. It shows that Lagos is not merely surviving economic pressures but actively building a resilient and self-sustaining economy,” he stated.
The Campaign for Dignity Governance noted that the achievement did not happen by chance but is the result of consistent reforms in tax administration, digital revenue systems, and improved compliance frameworks that have expanded the state’s internally generated revenue base.
The group further emphasised that Lagos has continued to distinguish itself as a model of subnational economic management in Nigeria, with policies that prioritise growth, accountability, and efficiency.
Olokoba explained that strong revenue performance provides the foundation for infrastructure development, improved public services, and long-term economic stability.
“When a state generates revenue at this scale, it gains the capacity to invest in roads, schools, healthcare, transportation, and social services without excessive dependence on federal allocations. This is what true fiscal independence looks like,” he added.
The group also highlighted the broader economic implications of the achievement, noting that a strong revenue base signals investor confidence and creates an enabling environment for business growth and job creation.
It stressed that Lagos’ ability to maintain and grow its revenue in a challenging national and global economic climate reflects strong leadership and effective economic management.
The Campaign for Dignity Governance further commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for sustaining policy continuity, noting that long-term economic success is built on consistent reforms rather than short-term interventions.
It urged the state government to continue strengthening institutional frameworks, improving transparency, and ensuring that revenue growth translates into visible improvements in the lives of citizens.
“This is governance that works — governance that is not only focused on collection but also on impact. Lagos is setting the pace, and this achievement reinforces its position as Nigeria’s economic nerve centre,” Olokoba concluded.
