Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on intending pilgrims from Lagos State to use the opportunity of the 2026 Hajj to pray for the unity, stability, and continued progress of Nigeria. The governor made this appeal during a preparatory seminar held in Ikeja, where hundreds of prospective pilgrims gathered ahead of their journey to Saudi Arabia.
Addressing the pilgrims, Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the Hajj is a sacred religious obligation and not merely a travel experience. He urged them to approach the pilgrimage with sincerity, humility, and a deep sense of spiritual responsibility. According to him, the significance of the journey goes beyond personal devotion, as it also presents an opportunity to intercede for the nation during a critical period.
The governor specifically encouraged the pilgrims to pray for Nigeria’s leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asking for divine guidance, wisdom, and strength in addressing the country’s challenges. He noted that collective prayers from faithful citizens can contribute meaningfully to national development, peace, and economic recovery.
Sanwo-Olu also advised the pilgrims to conduct themselves in a disciplined and respectful manner throughout their stay in Saudi Arabia. He warned against engaging in any form of misconduct, including political discussions or actions that could tarnish the image of Lagos State or Nigeria as a whole. Instead, he urged them to be good ambassadors of their state by demonstrating integrity, patience, and adherence to the rules governing the pilgrimage.
In addition to his moral and spiritual guidance, the governor reassured the pilgrims of the state government’s commitment to their welfare. He highlighted various support measures put in place to ensure a smooth and comfortable pilgrimage experience, including logistical arrangements and essential provisions.
The event also served as a platform for officials to educate pilgrims on the rites of Hajj and the importance of following laid-down guidelines to ensure safety and compliance with international regulations. Religious leaders present at the seminar reinforced the governor’s message, stressing the need for devotion, unity, and prayers for national well-being.
As preparations continue, the Lagos State Government remains optimistic that the pilgrims will return spiritually fulfilled and contribute positively to society, carrying with them lessons of faith, discipline, and national responsibility.
