The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday received the Canadian Minister for International Development, Randeep Singh Sarai, at Lagos House, Marina, during a courtesy visit focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and exploring new opportunities for partnership.
Governor Sanwo-Olu disclosed that discussions during the meeting centred on areas of mutual interest between Lagos and Canada, particularly in sectors capable of driving sustainable growth and improving the quality of life for residents. He noted that the engagement reflects Lagos State’s continued commitment to building strategic international relationships that can support development across critical sectors.
According to the governor, the conversation highlighted the importance of collaboration in areas such as economic development, innovation, education, infrastructure, and human capital advancement. He added that Lagos remains open to global partnerships that align with the state government’s vision of building a more inclusive, resilient, and prosperous economy.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized that Lagos, as Nigeria’s commercial hub and one of Africa’s fastest-growing cities, continues to attract international interest due to its expanding opportunities in technology, commerce, investment, and public sector reforms. He said partnerships with countries like Canada would further strengthen the state’s development agenda and create opportunities for knowledge exchange and investment.
The courtesy visit also underscored the growing diplomatic and economic relationship between Nigeria and Canada, with both sides expressing optimism about future collaborations that could benefit businesses, institutions, and citizens.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to work with international stakeholders and development partners in advancing initiatives that will contribute to sustainable development and long-term economic growth in Lagos State.
