Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reiterated the importance of security as a critical foundation for development, as he pledged the state’s support for the successful hosting of the Africa International Defence Exhibition (AFRIDEX) 2026.
The governor made the commitment while receiving members of the AFRIDEX 2026 Steering Committee, led by Major General B.I. Alaya, during a courtesy visit to Lagos House, Marina.
The delegation briefed Governor Sanwo-Olu on preparations for the forthcoming exhibition, which is expected to bring together key stakeholders from across Africa and beyond to discuss contemporary defence and security issues. The event is being positioned as a major platform for dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge exchange on matters relating to security, defence innovation, and regional stability.
Speaking during the meeting, Sanwo-Olu noted that security remains a top priority for his administration and an essential pillar for sustainable growth and economic prosperity. He stressed that Lagos, as Nigeria’s commercial capital, recognizes the importance of strengthening partnerships and supporting initiatives that promote peace, safety, and strategic cooperation.
The governor commended Major General Alaya and members of the steering committee for their efforts in organizing what is expected to be one of the continent’s leading defence and security exhibitions. He expressed confidence that the event would contribute meaningfully to discussions on addressing emerging security challenges and fostering collaboration among governments, security agencies, and industry stakeholders.
Sanwo-Olu also assured the organisers of Lagos State’s readiness to provide the necessary support to ensure the success of AFRIDEX 2026.
The planned exhibition is expected to attract defence experts, policymakers, security professionals, and industry leaders from various countries, further strengthening Africa’s collective efforts toward improving security and promoting regional development.
