The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving public safety and urban infrastructure through the ongoing Light-Up Lagos project, which continues to transform major roads and communities across the state.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu disclosed that significant progress has been made since the last update on the initiative, with government teams actively replacing old and faulty fittings while installing new streetlights across both the Lagos Mainland and Island.
According to the governor, the project is designed to improve visibility on roads, enhance security, and provide residents with greater confidence as they go about their daily activities, especially during the night and early hours of the morning.
He noted that the administration remains focused on creating a safer and more accessible environment for all road users, emphasizing that adequate street lighting plays a vital role in reducing accidents, improving traffic flow, and strengthening public safety.
The positive impact of the project has also attracted commendation from members of the diplomatic community. The Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Lagos, Mr. Michel Deelen, recently shared his observations on the ongoing improvements across the city.
Deelen remarked that Lagos has become noticeably safer at night, adding that the enhanced street lighting has made driving around the metropolis much easier and more comfortable. His comments underscore the growing recognition of the state’s efforts to modernize infrastructure and improve the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
The Light-Up Lagos initiative forms part of the Sanwo-Olu administration’s broader agenda to build a more secure, resilient, and economically vibrant city. As installation and maintenance works continue across strategic locations, the government says it remains committed to ensuring that more communities benefit from reliable and efficient street lighting infrastructure.
