The Campaign for Dignity Governance (CDG) has joined millions of Nigerians in celebrating the former Governor of Lagos State and former Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, on the occasion of his birthday, describing him as one of Nigeria’s finest public administrators and a leader whose legacy continues to shape governance and infrastructure development across the country.
In a statement signed by its Convener, Razaq Olokoba, the organization said Fashola’s birthday presents an opportunity not only to celebrate another year in his life but also to reflect on a remarkable public service career built on competence, discipline, accountability, and visionary leadership.
According to the Campaign for Dignity Governance, history remembers leaders not merely because they occupied public office but because they transformed institutions, inspired confidence, and left behind systems that continued to serve the people long after they left office.
The group noted that Babatunde Raji Fashola belongs to this distinguished category of leaders.
“Leadership is ultimately measured by impact. Years after leaving office as Governor of Lagos State, many of the policies, reforms, and institutions established under Babatunde Raji Fashola continue to contribute to the growth and development of Lagos. That is the mark of transformational leadership,” the statement read.
The organization recalled that during his tenure as Governor, Lagos witnessed major investments in road infrastructure, environmental management, public transportation, urban renewal, judicial reforms, security architecture, education, and public service modernization.
According to the group, his administration demonstrated that government could be efficient, transparent, and responsive when driven by competence and strategic planning.
The Campaign for Dignity Governance further praised Fashola’s contributions as Minister of Works and Housing, noting that he supervised some of Nigeria’s most significant federal infrastructure projects while promoting reforms aimed at improving connectivity and national development.
“His years in public service consistently reflected discipline, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to national progress. His approach to governance continues to serve as a valuable example for current and future leaders,” Olokoba stated.
The organization also highlighted Fashola’s reputation for intellectual depth, respect for institutions, and commitment to the rule of law.
According to CDG, these qualities have earned him admiration across political, professional, and civic circles.
The group further observed that in an era where public confidence in institutions is often tested, leaders who govern with integrity and place public interest above personal gain deserve recognition.
“As Nigeria continues its democratic journey, the country requires more leaders who understand that governance is about building institutions, creating opportunities, and preparing the next generation for success. Babatunde Raji Fashola has consistently demonstrated those values throughout his public life.”
The Campaign for Dignity Governance prayed for continued good health, wisdom, and strength for the elder statesman, expressing confidence that his experience and counsel will continue to benefit Nigeria.
“As he marks another year, we celebrate a leader whose service has left an enduring imprint on Lagos State and Nigeria. We wish him many more years of sound health, fulfillment, and continued contributions to nation-building.”
